Late Saturday night when the humans were all asleep is the best time for most animals to come out. The nocturnal ones at least... A few raccoons sat in the trees, owls flew silently around trying to find prey, opossums came out to eat... and a golden-furred dragoness had come to sit at the side of the lake.
The dragon would be a rare species, if anyone even kept up with the species of dragon. Her fur was medium length and on her back and tail were dark brown stripes. The dragon's wings were a smoky gray and the fangs hung out of her mouth. The eye's of the beast seemed to glow in the dim moonlight as she sat beside the lake.
The beast's tail waved slowly back and forth before it curled around the cream colored paws of the dragon. An exhaled sigh could be heard at length. At the moment her normal and high-strung self was nonexistent... why? Because she was alone at the moment. Her mind had time to wonder onto other things. Some good, others bad... although she preferred when her mind turned to the good things. She didn't like to think about bad things... They upset her to no end. Then, her temper would become short... Then, she ended up hurting people's feelings and feeling bad about it later. Maybe she could snap herself out of her reverie...
The dragoness blinked and absentmindedly looked up at the moon. Her eyes would probably look funny to anyone who happened to gaze at them. Not only because they seemed to glowing... but because they had a vacant look. Her mind was elsewhere and therefore her eyes would look as if she wasn't focusing on anything, which in reality she wasn't...
A growl came from her throat and she shook her head. Snap out of it, Sunclaw! Her head shook again and she managed to come back down to earth a little more, the vacant look lifting a little. Although, there was no guarantee whether she would be snappy if anyone came to talk to her right now.
Well... would anyone come? It as late at night, there should be no chance of humans and as for another clan... that was a little bit more likely... You never knew who would show up to chat, or attack. She hoped it was the former. She didn't really want to fight, and besides, attacking would be breaking one of the laws.

This night, depending on how one would see it, was either fortunate or unfortunate in the fact that there were more than just nocturnal animals lurking around the darkness around the calm lake. A seemingly young man stepped out under the moonlight, his beautiful face half covered by moonlight, the other half still in the darkness. He wore a simple white shirt and black pants, as if he had just come from a formal occasion, like a music recital, or something cheesy like that. Nocturne had grown used to wearing this type of dress that was formal, yet casual over the last century or so. Sitting down, he looked up at the moon. It was in it's full stage, and the vampire leader basked in moonlight for a moment of rest, letting the moonlight wash over his body.
It was then, in that rare moment of relaxation, that another vampire, one of his subordinates appeared, but before he could scold the Vampire Clan's leader, the blond haired man with sea blue eyes had stood up angrily, his silken blond hair turning a soft shade of silver, those beautiful sea blue eyes turning a bloody and glowing shade of red, and his canines grew longer. Seeing this transformation, the subordinate muttered a hasty apology in a language that seemed unintelligible to a normal human and left, melting into the shadows.
Still in his true form, the leader did not go back to sitting. Instead, a low growl that came out of nowhere made him alert. Smelling the air, the vampire took advantage of his heightened senses, and soon a scent came to him that made him grimace. Dragon. One of his kind's enemies. Or at least, an ex-enemy. For now. Nocturne doubted the peace between the four species would last, and soon his people would be spurred into action.

The dragoness' ears instinctively pricked towards the sound of talking. Was it humans? It shouldn't have been. Besides, she hadn't scented any humans. She blinked rapidly and forcefully pulled herself out of her reverie. She shook her head, her dark brown mane fell over her eyes as she looked around.
Her gold eyes pierced through the darkness. She could see a single vampire. His hair seemed to be bleached silver in the moonlight. Or perhaps it was silver, you could never be sure. Had he come with malicious intent? It didn't matter if they were clan territory or not. He wasn't allowed to hurt her... or maybe he was a rogue and rules didn't apply to him... What if he tried to hurt her? She wasn't sure what she would do. Her clan wasn't around so she would have to fight solo... and vampires were strong.
Well, hopefully he was clan. That's what she would go with. So, the dragon stepped towards the water and lowered her head to drink. Her mouth opened so she could scoop up the water into her mouth like a prehistoric dinosaur would. Her tongue was forked and she couldn't really drink any other way.
After she was done the dragoness lifted her head. Water streamed from the fur on her chin and ran down her neck. She shook her head then gazed around. She could still see the vampire. So, she made a decision to go and be polite. It was in her nature to be that way after all, and if he attacked... well, that would be his fault. No doubt her clan would be upset about any violence.
Sunclaw stretched her wings, then she lifted into the air. She hovered for a moment then slowly winged over to the vampire. She landed on the shore of the lake and made sure that she was far enough away as to not seem threatening. However, she was close enough so that she could speak easily and be heard. Her intelligent gold eyes blinked and then her mouth opened, "Hi, vampire, nice night isn't it?" She could see the vampire easier from her closer position. His glowing red eyes and pale skin seemed familiar somehow. She definitely knew he was clan now. She had seen him somewhere but she didn't have much dealings with other clans... so she wasn't sure what rank he held...

The dragoness that now appeared in his sight as she soared and landed close to him. It seemed she was making an effort not to be threatening, and it made the vampire smile in amusement. Relaxing, he decided to see if he could use this dragon's reactions to entertain himself. "Yes, dragon, the night is especially beautiful. I'm sorry if you had to see that little spat between me and my subordinate, and I offer my deepest apologies if you did." Calmly sitting down, he let out a sigh and his appearance returned to normal, his anger having faded. It was truly frightening, he had been told, when he was angry. Taking advantage of waiting for the dragoness to speak, he studied her appearance. She seemed familiar...but Nocturne never really took note of another clan's members, except for their leaders. He had to know the other leaders as he usually had quite a few dealings with them, what with all the 'peace' talks and whatnot. But still, she probably seemed familiar since she had fur instead of scales. It seemed strange, seeing a dragon with fur, but you never knew. There could be a dragon with skin for all the vampire leader cared. It was all the same to him.
Closing his eyes, the leader listened to the noises around him. the bugs were relatively quiet, but their noises could still be heard. Grasshoppers and crickets chief among them. The waters of the lake gently splashed against the banks, creating quite a natural scene, but the sight of several cans and other trash items being washed ashore along with the sand ruined the image. Most of what humans did defiled the sacred earth. But the vampire couldn't complain. His breed was fairly related to those filthy beings, and some of them drunk their blood. So he could not wage a war or something like that on them. Besides, they weren't really worth the effort. The vampires could watch as the humans slowly destroyed themselves, and then take over after a many centuries. Of course, he would be old by then, even by vampire standards...
He had lost track of his age ages back. What was he now? One, two centuries at least, waiting with his clan in the shadows, watching the humans kill each other in a greedy race for power.

"Yes, dragon, the night is especially beautiful. I'm sorry if you had to see that little spat between me and my subordinate, and I offer my deepest apologies if you did." Sunclaw blinked and gave a half smile. "Oh, no I didn't see it I just didn't want to seem too threatening and have you attack... or... something..." She could see the vampire calming down. It was like a visual thing... actually it was a visual thing. His appearance changed. His hair turned from silver to a white blond and his eyes turned to an entrancing sea-blue. Quite pretty she thought. Sunclaw looked down at the ground and dragged one of her claws around in the dirt. Feeling a little awkward. The vampire could tell that she had been trying to be un-threatening and probably thought it was entertaining. Maybe she should tell him her name so things wouldn't be so awkard for her. So, she raised her eyes back up to him and gave a grin. "Well, I'm Sunclaw. Just a regular subordinate in the Dragon Clan... Who are you?" Her tail wagged side to side as she hoped he would answer her question without incident. She actually really wanted to know. Maybe he was just a subordinate like her, however, some sort of doubt seemed to creep into her. He seemed to carry some regalness that only leaders possesed. That probably was what he was.
